Thunder Peals

thunder peals, and summer steals
it's way back in you heart
and now you number wolves and winter
among things you forgot
old man river wakes, and sudden breaks
the ice across his back
the trees throw their stores of snow
on fresh-made badger tracks
mockingbirds once more are heard
in the forests of the world
and running vines and quiet minds
'round linden trees are curled
the plainsong verse of otters
at play in babbling brooks
joins every song of every evergreen
in every wood

on the wings of the storm
you will be carried forth
to the nest you will return
body, breath and life secure

Heed No Fell Voice
04:00
|
|
||
walk on, walk on my dear
through fields and through tears
and i will walk and never veer
through forests and through fears
"heed no earthly noise,"
the heavens sing
"heed not the fell voice
the north wind brings"
one day we will meet
at the edge of this wood
where forest and prairie
join and kiss
there we will build a house,
a place to call our own
and we'll be grafted into
each other and our home

Jacob

sometimes at night
I sleep on the floor
I lay on my side, and like Jacob my thigh
is bruised in the mornin'
sometimes at night
when I can't sleep
I ride on my bike, 'til night air and moonlight
make me weak
sometimes at night
I hear Aaron sing
soaring and light, his voice full of fight
and beautiful things
